Swim Team

This summer we decided to put Ben in swim team because he loves swimming and he is a competitive kid who likes to race. He didn't exactly know the strokes, but he could swim above water and we were told by coaches he would be ok. Well, he is in a group of 6-8 year olds and he is the only 6 year old, so the other kids are a lot better and more experienced than he is. He is learning his strokes, but it isn't easy for him. Despite the difficulty, he refuses to quit and continues to try his best at practice every day. He is learning the strokes, but can't really make it across the entire pool sticking with one stroke - he sort of gets tired and switches to something else about half way down the lane! So I haven't put him in a swim meet because I think he will just end up getting disqualified. He has made a lot of improvement though - he will now swim in the diving well, which is where he practices but was scared to go in before, and he has even discovered that he loves going off the diving board! Like I said, he is learning his strokes, so that is improvement too. Most of all, I am proud of him for sticking with it this summer. We will maybe get some lessons over the winter and see what we think about next summer.

Practice is every day from 8:45-9:45am, so the girls and I have some down time while we watch him swim...
