Memorial Day Fun!

Memorial Day was quite busy for us. It was a beautiful (and hot) day so we took full advantage of the nice weather and headed outside. We thought it might be a good time to try riding a bike without training wheels for Ben. We have asked him about it a few times and he is very hesitant about it, so I read a few things online and decided to try some tricks I learned. But as soon as we got to the park, Juliette hopped on Abbey's tricycle and wanted a ride (she can't quite pedal yet).

When she realized nobody was going to push her, she decided to head off down the hill by herself.

So what I read was that you should take them to a grassy hill and let them ride down the hill on the bike with their feet out so they can get the feeling of balance. Knowing Ben was nervous about this, we started doing it on the tricycle to show him how fun it was to go down the hill. He loved it, but was still nervous to try it out on his bike. Abbey also loved going down the hill by the way.

And of course whenever big brother and big sister get to do something, Juju shouts "It's my turn!!" So we gave her a turn too.

Ben did great! He begged Paul not to let go of his shoulders though.

By the end he let Paul run behind him, but he had to catch him if he started to fall. He did really well, but he is still pretty nervous about it. We aren't going to push it - whenever he is ready - but I think some progress was definitely made.

After that, we were all pretty hot, so we headed home for a cool drink and quick rest. Then it was time to head over to our storage unit. For those of you who don't know, we are redoing our kitchen and since it starts Monday, we had to move all of our stuff out of the kitchen and living room, so we rented a storage unit. It has been a huge process already and they haven't even started yet! Anyway, we went to the storage unit and the kids got a big kick out of seeing it. After naps we headed out to the pool for our first summer fun there - the kids had a blast and it made us all excited for this summer. We got home, grilled up some burgers, and discussed our fabulous day. The kids all agreed that their favorite part of the day was visiting the storage unit, which obviously surprised us! Those silly kids. Happy Memorial Day!
